Introduction
Fiber Optics Technician Training offered at Sina Institute of Networks and Aesthetics. A Fiber Optics Technician generally works in the telecommunications industry. They install fiber optic cables, which are used to carry Internet, telephone, and television connections/services. Technicians perform their job duties inside and outside of homes and buildings, installing new cables and repairing and maintaining existing cables. Fiber Optics Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and correcting any problems that may arise. Customer interaction can also play a large role in the technician’s day, and fiber optic technicians must have an acceptable appearance (for example, clean and professional) and be comfortable interacting with customers. Some technicians are also responsible for promoting company services and ensuring customer satisfaction.
A fiber optic technician position is physical, requiring the technician to climb telephone poles and crawl in small spaces. Employers look generally look for candidates with at least an associate’s degree in telecommunications engineering or electrical engineering, along with specialized certifications. Good analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary, and the fiber optic technician must be a self-starter with the capability to work independently. Fiber Optics Technician Tasks:
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic systems.
- May create sensors and perform optical inspections.
- Measure signal strength to ensure adequate performance.
- Run fiber optic cables underground or underwater, and perform premises cabling.
- Conduct regular inspections of fiber optic systems, and locate and repair defects.
Certified Fiber Optic Technician – is the FOA certification for general fiber optics applications. CFOTs have appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities in fiber optics that can be applied to almost any job – design, installation, operation – for almost any application – outside plant, premises, manufacturing, etc.
